We Support Lee: Al Gore's Speech
There is an interesting and well reasoned post at We Support Lee: Al Gore’s Speech that is worth a visit. It contains a clear articulation of the plusses and minuses of various energy production methods and tries to understand the politics that often underly some of the statements made about each energy production method.
Energy issues can make for strange political alignments, but that should not be surprising. Politics often boils down to economic interests and there is a HUGE quantity of money involved in energy choices. Support for nuclear energy is often portrayed as a conservative position while opposition seems to come from more liberal leaning groups, but the positions are not that clear.
For example, Al Gore Sr. was a big supporter of atomic technology development along with a number of other prominent Democrats like Scoop Jackson, L. Mendel Rivers and John F. Kennedy. It is my contention that Al Gore Jr. is really a supporter of the technology but is not too keen on the way that the business has developed so far. Anyway, go read Ruth’s post and get involved in the discussion.
