Banks and private equity firms WANT to finance nuclear plants

One of the more persistent and frustrating comments that anti-nuclear groups have about nuclear power is that the market has spoken and has rejected the technology.

There are lots of complicated responses to those statements, but here is one that is becoming more true – “That statement is OBE (Overcome By Events).”

Here is an interesting story from Reuters financial pages – sorry that it is kind of time late – I missed it when it appeared last week.

Active market seen in U.S. nuke plant financing – here is the lead for the article:

HOUSTON, Feb. 13 (Reuters) – Banks and private equity firms are keen to finance the construction of nuclear power plants in the United States, despite public opposition to the projects, an investment banker said on Tuesday.

“It’s not something lenders are scared to stick their toe in,” William Montgomery, head of the natural resources group at investment bank Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS.N: Quote, Profile , Research), told the Cambridge Energy Research Associates CERA Week conference in Houston.
