Passionate defense of nuclear energy
About two years ago, I made a trip from Virginia to Gaffney, South Carolina to talk at a public meeting being held about the draft environmental impact statement prepared for the proposed William States Lee nuclear power station which will include two 1140 MWe Westinghouse AP1000® reactor units. That proposed new power plant project is…
Response to contamination: WIPP and New Mexico should practice communication skills
Recent events at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) provide an opportunity to reinforce the need to practice good communication skills in order to improve the future response to a contamination event. Though there is no public hazard associated with airborne contamination levels of 0.64 Bq of Am-241 and 0.046 Bq of Pu-239/240, the New…
The Atomic Show #023 – Energy Geopolitics
Shane and I start with a lengthy and informative discussion about saturation diving, a technique that allows humans to operate in deep water for weeks at a time. This technique is often a part of off-shore oil drilling and production and is one of the many reasons that there are high costs associated with that…
Atomic Show #264 – Building momentum in advanced nuclear energy
It’s not glaringly obvious, but preparatory steps enabling a take off for advanced nuclear power systems are making measurable progress. Enabling legislative acts have been passed by both the Senate and House and signed by the President, turning them into laws requiring actions. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is back to full strength and under a…
Atomic Show #344 – Jarret Adams, Founder Full On Communications
There are few industries in the world that have a greater need for skilled communications than the nuclear industry. It’s a challenging technology to understand and to explain to those who are not really interested in the nitty gritty details. There is a significant portion of the industry that believes in silently going about its…

It’s good to see Isabel becoming a prominent fixture in the pro-nuclear, online presence. To me, the pro-nuke, zoomer, influencer, fashion model archetype she has created (hasn’t been imitated) seems strangely contrived, but she has been consistent about the cause for many years now. I’m used to this demographic producing materialistic and showy or otherwise insipid content (purses, jewelry, trips to Italy, un-boxings, mukbang). My theory is her online persona and content is ‘produced’ – that Isabel is a frontman for some non-governmental organization. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I have strange sensibilities and the contrived online world of social media chafes them.
I bought the book. Initial thumb-through looks good. I need a few hours to read it. I’ll post a review on Amazon.
The Atomic Show seems to offer insightful discussions on nuclear energy. I appreciate the efforts to promote this field, though I wish there were more diverse perspectives included. The comments section provides some interesting additional viewpoints.labubu live wallpaper
