Atomic energy technology, politics, and perceptions from a nuclear energy insider who served as a US nuclear submarine engineer officer

UK Editorial writer likes carbon capture better than nuclear

May 27, 2007 By Rod Adams

The Sunday Herald (out of Scotland) published an op-ed piece titled Carbon capture and storage is the way ahead that we refuse to take that claims that the UK government is off track in its recently issued energy white paper titled Meeting the Energy Challenge.

According to the commentary, nuclear power will take too long to begin to make any difference, wind, solar and tidal power will have technological breakthroughs before nuclear becomes available, the use of coastal locations for nuclear stations is a risk because of rising sea levels, and carbon capture technology is proven and available now.

The author of the editorial was so biased that he needed some corrective information – fortunately the Sunday Herald takes comments. There is already quite a thread going with some great entries by people like G.R.L. Cowan. As you might imagine, I tossed a few thoughts into the mix.
