Atomic energy technology, politics, and perceptions from a nuclear energy insider who served as a US nuclear submarine engineer officer

Westinghouse Adds 5,000 Employees Over Last Four Years

June 5, 2010 By Rod Adams

Fox Business interviews Westinghouse Senior Vice President Kate Jackson about the company’s steady growth in employees during a period that has seen other companies shrink. She explains how the nuclear industry is growing internationally, what the company is doing to find new hires, and what kind of skills the company needs. The impressive news is that Westinghouse is planning to add 1,000 people in 2010 and 750 people every year for the foreseeable future.

Another important tidbit of that Ms. Jackson shares is that the NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) attitude that used to be associated with nuclear plants has turned into IMNY – In My Back Yard by the continued safe and clean operation plus the public outreach and transparency that most nuclear installations practice on a day to day basis. The closer you get to nuclear plants the more public support you find for new nuclear plants and for continued operation of the existing plant.

Would have liked to read the article but I’m not dealing with the ’14 day free trial’ business.
