American states are competing for new nuclear power plant projects
My, how times are changing! According to an article published by MarketWatch on May 21, 2007 titled States maneuver to lure new nuclear power plants a number of US states including Florida, Louisiana, South Carolina and Georgia are offering financial incentives to companies that build new nuclear power plants.
The states have the revolutionary notion that it is a good thing for them to encourage development of plants that will operate on a fuel whose price is less volatile and cleaner than natural gas. (That sentence is dripping with sarcasm, just in case you did not notice.)
Once again, there is evidence that the Not In My Backyard attitude that temporarily surrounded new nuclear power projects has been replaced by a new struggle for the economic and environmental benefits of hosting new, modern, job generating facilities with plenty of potential spin off industry.
