Even MySpace is affected by the heat wave
Aljazeera is reporting on the damaging effects of the recent heat wave on the west coast of the US. In an article titled US reeling under heatwave, power cuts the Arab news network has an almost gloating lead paragraph:
Americans are sweating through a searing heat wave that has caused major power meltdowns from coast to coast and knocked out the country’s most popular website MySpace.
I think it is unconscionable that there is insufficient generating capacity in a state as developed and advanced as California. I heard a poor excuse for a bureaucrat on NPR this afternoon say that it would of cost too much to keep enough reserve capacity on hand to respond to power demands.
Dad, the career utility guy, must be rolling in his grave. There was once a time, not so long ago when utility leaders would commit virtual hari kari rather than accept reserve margins that force customers to lose power when there is not even a storm around.
