Beyond Fossil Fools – New, Must Read Book by Joe Shuster
I have a new hero, even though I have not yet read his book. Joe Shuster is a retired entrepreneur who is spending $200,000 of his own money to promote the idea that the United States needs to build about 800 new nuclear power plants in order to stretch supplies of fossil fuels far into the future.
Joe’s book, Beyond Fossil Fools: Roadmap to Energy Independence by 2040 was published in June 2008. He wrote it after spending 2.5 years reading about 60 books on energy topics, interviewing about 100 energy experts and pouring through countless studies and technical papers. I found out about the project via an article written by Dave Beal on TwinCities.com titled He sees energy’s future: it’s nuclear. The article compares Joe’s effort to educate and persuade to that of T. Boone Pickens. Unfortunately, Joe’s resources are not measured in the millions, but I think he may have a more executable plan.
Right after reading the article, I ordered the book. I will let you know what I think once it arrives and I have a chance to read it. In the meantime, you might enjoy watching Joe Shuster’s interview about the future of nuclear with Don Shelby on WCCO.com.
