We’re making a difference with a lot of help from our fans
Atomic Insights LLC is a tax-paying publishing company based in the beautiful Blue Ridge foothills of South Central Virginia.
Though we are organized to make a sustainable profit, we are motivated to positively contribute to efforts to increase the world’s capability for clean energy production, improve medical diagnosis and enable advanced disease treatment. We accomplish our mission by sharing accurate information about nuclear energy and radiation technologies.
Enabled by payments from fans who have decided that it’s important for atomic energy to gain public acceptance and increase its market share, we send Rod Adams to events where he gathers useful intelligence, asks hard or interesting questions, and encourages decision makers to support nuclear energy technology development and deployment.
Because we make our money by seeking payments from people who believe our products and services are valuable, Rod is free to ask the kinds of questions that many people would like to ask. We don’t take a big risk if his questions challenge industry executives, potential funding sources or regulators.
Our service for customers is to gather, produce and distribute accurate information about interesting or useful topics associated with atomic technologies. We can influence events and decisions by initiating honest and occasionally uncomfortable discussions with people that have the ability to act, give approvals and move money.
Among other topics we discuss atomic energy innovations, the competitors to atomic energy, radiation health effects, the risks and benefits of using nuclear technology, the relationship of nuclear technology to environmental stewardship, regulations associated with nuclear technology, ways to improve the quality and efficiency of the nuclear regulatory process, and the hazards of avoiding the use of nuclear technology.
Our offerings currently include both written and audio publications. You’re reading Atomic Insights now. Our archive — found under the “More” dropdown menu at the top of each page — includes over 3,200 articles and commentaries written since 1995. The Atomic Show provides original audio material with conversations and interviews. The complete archive of more than 250 shows is available for download.
Our Atomic Audio Extra service provides recorded presentations or talks from public meetings or privately organized conferences — with permission from the originator, of course. We occasionally supplement written and audio offerings with video productions. We’d like to expand that segment, but videos consume far more resources per unit of shared information than the other two segments.
For a variety of reasons, some philosophical and some practical, we don’t like paywalls or advertising.
We depend on a “value for value” approach. Individuals, groups and corporations who believe our products and services are worth supporting choose to pay us an amount that reflects the value they receive. If our work helps someone land a job, sign a contract, move a regulator to make a positive decision, win an internet debate, or earn a good grade on their homework, we’re happy to let them pay for our labors.
Some of our supporters recognize additional value by ensuring that our products remain available to all.
Atomic Insights never sells or shares contact information. Our readers and listeners are the customers, not the product. While contributions of any size are welcome, they do not influence our editorial judgement or threaten our independence. We keep our fixed costs low and have reliable sources of income that have a low probability of disappearing.
If you value Atomic Insights and believe that more people need access to atomic information, here is a convenient button that accepts either PayPal or most major credit cards.
The available button graphic uses the word “Donate,” but we consider it a payment for entry into an inclusive Atomic Army of supporters who believe that atomic energy and radiation science are disruptive in a world where the hydrocarbon-based economy needs substantial revision.
Payments to a profit-making, tax-paying company like Atomic Insights LLC will never be tax deductible for individuals. Businesses can probably categorize the contributions as a “business expense” but only your tax advisor knows for sure.
There is little or no marginal cost to us if more people read and listen to our material. We’re seeking additional income and resources to improve our future ability to provide great content. It will also enable us to influence the growing acceptability of atomic technology to address some of the world’s most “wicked” challenges.
We’re toying with the idea of going big with full page ads in major news outlets if we obtain sufficient resources. We believe it is time for nuclear to elbow its way into the ongoing conversation about clean energy sources.
The paid advertising model that is common to commercial media outlets is inappropriate for us; it reduces the quality of the learning experience by cluttering up your display with extraneous information and images. A program to sell ads would distract our writers from the tasks you really want them to perform — original research and content production. That doesn’t mean we do not recognize the value of ads in media sources that depend on commercials for most of their income.
Bottom line – if you like Atomic Insights and want to see its reach and influence grow, please make a payment that reflects your assessment of the value you receive. Repeated or automatically scheduled donations are always welcome.
If you would like your support to be publicly recognized, please let us know. If you prefer to quietly support improved content, that’s okay too.
I think you should call it a “subscription”, not a donation. For profit news sources sell subscriptions, people don’t donate to them. But, whatever. Just my suggestion.
Jeff S:
Rod hasn’t really been one to yield to the restraints of convention, has he?
Consider this: If this were a “subscription” venue, how many would come to it in the first place?
He did initially offer “subscriptions” when he first started raising money to support Atomic Insights, but he decided to ax that business model.
Rather than donate, support/propagate could maybe be used as a starting point for a new word………..how about suppropagate?
i dont donate via Paypal
and living in the EU bitcoin like thing is much more preferable
Rod, if you were interested in adding a Bitcoin donation option, I would guess that Cal Abel could provide you with some decent information.
@EntrepreNuke
Thanks, but I’m as skeptical about Bitcoin as I am about wind and solar power systems.
