Constellation Energy tells Maryland that it wants fair treatment
CNNMoney published an article on January 30, 2008 that would surprise anyone who was active in nuclear politics in the 1990s and then stopped paying attention. The brief article, titled Constellation Energy Challenges Md’s Regulatory Environment informed readers that the company was going to take a proactive stance about any delaying tactics that might impede its successful construction project of a new nuclear power plant at the Calvert Cliffs site. Constellation had issued a statement telling the state that it was quite willing to move the effort to another state if Maryland added excessive delays.
Here is the comment from the article that would have almost shocked a 1990s audience:
Gov. Martin O’Malley said he was committed to the nuclear project in Maryland and would work to make sure it gets a timely review.
(O’Malley is a Democrat and the former mayor of Baltimore.)
