Atomstroyexport wins Belene contract

November 1, 2006 By Rod Adams

The Bulgarian Belene nuclear power plant facility was begun in 1984, but never completed. In 2005, Bulgaria decided to renew construction and finish the planned dual unit plant. It invited international bids and received packages from two consortia, one led by the Russian firm Atomstroyexport that includes Siemens and Areva, and one led by the Czech Republic firm Skoda that includes Westinghouse.

According to Russian Atomstroyexport to construct Belene NPP in Bulgaria the winner in the exhaustive competition has been decided. It is interesting to read about the quantity of correspondence and paper involved in the process of determining the best supplier for this project.
