Atomic Show 35 – Interview with Dr. Regis Matzie
On November 2, 2006, I had the privilege of talking with Regis Matzie, Westinghouse Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. The occasion was an interview conducted for The Atomic Show, a weekly (most of the time) podcast hosted by The Podcast Network.
Dr. Matzie talked to me about the current status of the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor, Westinghouse’s recent win of a DOE contract for the Next Generation Nuclear Plant, his interpretation of the “dash to gas” of the 1990s, and Westinghouse’s integral pressurized water reactor designed for smaller power grids – the IRIS.
The interview lasts about 25 minutes and is certainly worth the time invested, despite the sound problems imposed by my poor choice of attempting a Skype phone interview from a Starbucks coffee shop at 7:30 am on a work day. (You would think I would know better at my age!)
Dr. Matzie has “been there and done that” in the nuclear industry and he is very enthusiastic about the future of the business.
