Atomic energy technology, politics, and perceptions from a nuclear energy insider who served as a US nuclear submarine engineer officer

Atomic Show #120 – Commentary about President-elect Obama's Energy Secretary

December 24, 2008 By Rod Adams

The Podcast Network has rebuilt the hard drives and data bases that provide access to The Atomic Show and the other fine independent audio shows. I am slowing restoring the show archives to provide access to the library of shows produced since March 2006.

Right before the site went down, I finished up a somewhat different kind of production where I commented on clips from Democracy Now! from the December 16, 2008 episode of that show. During that show, Amy Goodman interviewed Andrew Revkin from the New York Times Dot Earth blog and Bill McKibben, a long time environmental activist and writer. None of the three had any good words to say about nuclear power, even though they were talking about a couple of scientists who have both expressed a belief that nuclear fission energy has a great deal of potential for solving problems that progressives claim they want to address.

My message to Progressives – If you are concerned about global climate change, hate air pollution, want to enable prosperity for developing nations, want to help improve job prospects for working class Americans, and believe that the fossil fuel establishment has done great harm to the environment, you should favor nuclear power. At the very least, if you are someone who takes pride in being a critical thinker who is not influenced by conventional wisdom, you should open your mind to learn more about the topic. Atomic Show number 120 is an attempt to converse with people who, so far, will not return my phone calls or email.

PS – if you happen to have a copy of Atomic Show #022, please contact me. For some reason, that is a blank spot in my archive. (Update: Several of you responded quickly, so I have now been able to complete the recovery of the online Atomic Show archive. Thank you, Jim and Bob.)
