Atomic energy technology, politics, and perceptions from a nuclear energy insider who served as a US nuclear submarine engineer officer

PBMR project update – December 6, 2005

December 6, 2005 By Rod Adams

South Africa’s PBMR (Pty) Ltd has signed two contracts with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan. One contract – worth $10 Million US – is for the long lead time items and forgings required for the Core Barrel Assembly for the demonstration PBMR project planned for the Koeberg site in Western South Africa. The second contract – worth approximately $5 Million US – is for professional services related to the detailed design of the Core Barrel Assembly.

In other PBMR news, the company has a meeting scheduled on December 12, 2005 with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission to discuss its pre-application plans. Details about the meeting, which is open to the public, can be found on the NRC web site at http://adamswebsearch2.nrc.gov/idmws/doccontent.dll?library=PU_ADAMS^PBNTAD01&ID=053320263:5
