Nuclear "Waste" versus Fossil Waste – comment on Daily Source Code 767
On the June 10, 2008 episode of the Daily Source Code, Atomic Rod (that’s me) payed a visit to rant about the fact that we have been conditioned to consider nuclear waste as an unsolvable problem while we have also been conditioned to simply accept and deal with the deadly waste products that spew out of smokestacks and tailpipes in our fossil fuel based economy. You can find the comment at minute 47 of DSC 767.
Please forgive the poor sound quality of my comment (I think I submitted a file with a bit rate that did not match well with Curry’s set up) and the fact that I tried fitting 5 minutes worth of facts and emotion into a 3 minute file. Adam broke up the rapid fire – but not particularly eloquent – talking with some comments of his own. He seemed genuinely excited to find out that all of our used fuel could fit into a football stadium and that even the low-level waste from hundreds of plants is currently stored in just three facilities that take up a few hundred acres across the entire US.
If someone out there has a better voice and a better facility with off the cuff speaking – and it would not be too difficult – contact me. I am finally figuring out that I can write and research better than I can talk.
