Fuel costs eat at electric utilities
Vicky Eckenrode of the Morris News Service published an interesting article titled Fuel costs eat at electric utilities. I found a published on November 18, 2005 on the web site of the Gwinnett Daily Post.
After a detailed discussion of the basis for several recent fuel adjustment requests by both Georgia Power and by Savannah Electric there was a comment in the article that would be worth discussing and further investigation:
Calling the impending Georgia Power request unusual because it comes so soon after another hike, Commissioner Bobby Baker said he plans to ask tough questions about why he has not heard of similar problems with the more than 40 Electric Membership Cooperatives operating in the state.
“Why do we see these dramatic increases for Southern Co. (the parent company for Georgia Power and Savannah Electric), but we don’t see it for the EMCs throughout the state of Georgia?” he said.
