Atomic energy technology, politics, and perceptions from a nuclear energy insider who served as a US nuclear submarine engineer officer

Coal power plant developers scouting Wiscasset (site of the former Maine Yankee nuclear plant)

January 6, 2007 By Rod Adams

According to an article in MaineToday.com titled Wiscasset scouted for power plant, there are some power plant developers that are interested in building a coal-fired power plant in Wiscasset, Maine, on the site where the Maine Yankee nuclear power plant (now completely decommissioned) used to be.

The site has a number of advantages for a power plant, which are detailed in the article. For some odd reason, however, the article did not even mention the possibility that someone might think about building a new nuclear plant there. Since MaineToday.com accepts comments for registered users, I signed up and then made a comment suggesting that the best and highest use of the former Maine Yankee site is a new nuclear power plant.
