Atomic energy technology, politics, and perceptions from a nuclear energy insider who served as a US nuclear submarine engineer officer

Alternative Energy Holdings, Inc.

December 8, 2006 By Rod Adams

Alternative Energy Holdings, Inc. has started a bit of a stir that has not yet been noticed by major media outlets. On December 1, 2006, the company issued a press release indicating that they had signed a letter of intent to build, own and operate a 1,500 MW nuclear powered electrical station near Bruneau, Idaho. Nuclear Engineering International published a brief note about the project on 8 December 2006 titled ESBWR planned for Idaho. That link was included in one of my daily Google Alerts, so I started digging.

Eric McErlain noticed an article on SunValleyonline.com and published a short comment yesterday titled Proposal for New Nuclear Build in Idaho. In that post, Eric pointed out that there is a lively discussion going on at Red State Rebels under the heading of Nuke plant near Bruneau?”.

That is a bit of an understatement. If you decide to join the discussion, be prepared with a clean scroll wheel. There are numerous and lengthy comments about both the pros and the cons of nuclear power when compared to alternatives.
