Opportunity to Support an Exciting Nuclear Technology Video Project
Many people who read Atomic Insights have told me that they appreciate the effort that I invest in the publication. Some ask me how I find the time, others ask me how I plan to make a return on the time invested. The answers to those questions are best discussed over coffee or something stronger. There are times, however, when I will ask something in return from you. This is one of those times.
For the past six months, I have been helping out with a project to support a couple of high school debate students who were using good information about nuclear energy to win a series of state and regional level debate competitions while working their way to a national level competition. My modest input was overshadowed by that provided by the real nuclear pioneers that the team was also able to contact.
Those senior advisors and the high school students are now planning to document the experience and share their story. The students need some help from you to make it a quality work that can be of long term use to those of us who fundamentally believe that we need to do all we can to share the truth about nuclear energy. Here is a description from John Shanahan, one of the instigators of the project:
OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT A NUCLEAR ENERGY AND NUCLEAR ISOTOPE DOCUMENTARY VIDEO PROJECT
URGENT. Please support a baker, a birdsong, and four scientist story-tellers in producing video documentaries aimed at all Americans and our elected officials. This will help solve the key challenges of establishing a better plan for America’s energy future.
The baker and birdsong are two of America’s very gifted and hardest working people under the age of twenty: Price Baker (FL) and Mary Claire Birdsong (GA). They have worked with nuclear scientists for the last six months and competed in national debates supporting nuclear energy and domestic production of isotopes. The Team Policy combo of Baker/Birdsong debated the resolution: “Resolved: that the United State Federal Government should significantly reform its environmental policy.” Baker/Birdsong advocated the use of Nuclear Power as the most effective way to reform environmental policy.
Price and Mary Claire will be traveling in September to interview four of America’s best scientist-story tellers in nuclear energy and nuclear science for medicine: Leonard Koch (AZ), Theodore Rockwell (MD), Robert Schenter (OR), Charles Till (ID).
They will produce documentary videos to be used for brief orientations and more in-depth presentations in all kinds of meetings at schools, universities, community meetings, Rotary Club, Garden Club, etc, and election campaigns for years to come. This video information is not easily outdated. The videos will be valid for decades to come and will not fade away like some print publication. You will receive copies of these videos so you can personally help promote nuclear energy and production and use of isotopes for medicine.
Many people are good scientists, engineers, and managers. They may also be good at giving technical presentations and testimony to Congress. But we have not yet won the key battles against the anti-nuclear ideologues for the hearts and minds of enough voters and elected officials to enable the success of strong nuclear programs. For the last forty years a relatively small group of people has succeeded at disrupting, delaying, and stopping the use of nuclear energy and domestic production of critical isotopes for medicine.
We can not let this go on any longer. These legendary senior scientist-story tellers do a wonderful job of explaining the incredible story of nuclear energy and use of isotopes for nuclear medicine to ordinary Americans and their elected officials. I call these great pioneers “scientist-story tellers,” because they are some of the key scientists in the development of these fields over the last fifty years and they have done very well at explaining these topics in writing in a way that ordinary people can understand. This video documentary project will bring their important messages to the visual medium and be accessible to a much wider general audience for a long time.
This project will cost $25,000. We are seeking donations of one thousand dollars from individuals able to afford it, and donations of twenty five, fifty or one hundred dollars from many people who support nuclear energy and nuclear medicine. A sound program for electrical energy generation will lead to good jobs, a strong economy and a better environment. A sound program for domestic production of isotopes for diagnosis and treating many diseases needs to be a national priority.
These donations are not tax deductible. They are your important contribution to help create better national electrical energy generation and domestic production of isotopes for medicine programs. In case this project costs less than the amount of money raised, refunds will be mailed to everyone proportionally, less the cost of generating and mailing the refund check, $5.00.
These are hard times in the economy. But here are some reasons to rationalize your donation:
1) Twenty five or fifty dollars is equal to the cost of a few tanks of gasoline for your car. Everybody is going to spend that. How far will that gasoline take you and what lasting good will you accomplish with that tank of gas?
2) Your donation will help produce video interviews with some of America’s best scientists who have worked many decades in nuclear energy and nuclear isotopes for medicine.
3) You will receive copies of these videos so you can help promote these causes with your professional colleagues, speaking organizations, like Rotary, and in education for voters and elected officials. This will give you a great opportunity to personally advance this cause.
If you decided that you want to help, please contact me. I will send you all of the information that you need to send the video producers whatever contribution you decide you can afford.
