One of the premier energy industry information sources is Platts, a McGraw-Hill company. They have an excellent, well organized web site with valuable information for the public that is available for free. If you are in the industry, however, they offer a number of services that can make the difference between success and failure. The rates for those services would seem rather steep to a member of the general public, but can be easily justified with cost benefit analysis.
Here is the “About” statement from their web site:
Platts is the world leader in providing energy information. For nearly a century, Platts has helped to enable ever-changing global energy markets enhance their performance through such offerings as independent industry news and price benchmarks. From 15 offices worldwide, Platts covers the oil, natural gas, electricity, nuclear power, coal, petrochemical and metals markets.
Platts also hosts industry conferences on a regular basis, providing excellent speakers and networking opportunities. On February 13-14, 2006, the organization is holding its 2nd Annual Nuclear Energy: Opportunities for Growth & Investment in North America Conference.
The slate of speakers is impressive, including representation from the energy industry, the financial industry and government. As I love to point out, momentum is growing rapidly in the industry. If you have the time and the resources, it would be a valuable way to spend a couple of days in the US capital.
