John Horgan and Rod Adams talk about nuclear energy in the context of an enormous natural disaster

Some of you might remember the conversation that I had last summer with John Horgan, a writer for Scientific American and a regular participant on Bloggingheads.tv. He contacted me during the weekend, asking if there was any way we could set up a conversation so that he could get my take on the events happening to the nuclear plants in Japan. As a fairly typical, well educated New Yorker, John has been losing some of the comfort that he developed about nuclear technology following our conversation.

We got together on the morning of March 15, 2011. I hope you enjoy this one. At 65 minutes, it is long enough to overrun most lunch hours.

  3. Rod, you say that this diavlog is too long for a lunch hour. However, your readers should know that it’s possible to watch a version of this that is played slightly faster (1.4x the normal speed) and that makes the interview significantly shorter. Simply go to button that’s directly to the right of the volume control (right under John Horgan’s face) and tap “1.4x”
    Also: Good job trying to spread calm and understanding, Rod. Your good work is always appreciated.

  4. Thank you for this diavlog and your podcast, too.
    You were defining radiation and radiation rate. Horgan stopped you before you explained “contamination”. Can you finish that thread?
