Adsense insertions of anti-nuclear advertisements
Several readers over the past few months have written to me to let me know that anti-nuclear advertisements often appear on my blog and on the Atomic Insights web site.
Those ads are placed based on the context of the post or article by the Google Adsense service, which allows people and organizations to purchase certain key words and to have their ads posted in web sites and blogs that include those key words. This process happens automatically once the key words are purchased on sites that have chosen to implement Google’s service with the insertion of lines of code in the page mark up language.
It does not bother me in the least to have ads sponsored by anti-nuclear groups. In the first place, I read a lot of the material that these groups publish in order to arm myself against their arguments. I encourage others to do the same. It is especially useful to have people who have no commitments or pre-conceived notions to compare the quality of the information in those publications against the material that I publish. I might be a bit vain here, but I think that my writing and sources can stand up to scrutiny and comparison.
Of course, it is also kind of neat to think about those groups having to dip into their piggy banks to pay my readers to arm themselves with information. After all, each click costs them money.
